Iran was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the State of Qatar. A month after independence, the declaration of recognition of the State of Qatar and the establishment of relations between the two countries was published. The first Iranian ambassador presented his credentials in 1972 To the Emir of the State of Qatar, while the first Qatari ambassador arrived in Iran in 1973.

The Embassy has played an important role in strengthening the relations between the Iranian and Qatari sides over the past years, in addition to providing various kinds of assistance to all Qatari citizens in Iran, whether residents or tourists.

The embassy is located in the Iranian capital of Tehran, specifically on Nelson Mandela's Street (formerly Garden), and this street includes a number of diplomatic missions to other countries because this region is considered a good administrative and commercial areas in the north of the capital.
