Qatar-Iran Relations

Iran was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the State of Qatar. A month after independence, the declaration of recognition of the State of Qatar and the establishment of relations between the two countries was published. The first Iranian ambassador presented his credentials in 1972 To the Emir of the State of Qatar, while the first Qatari ambassador arrived in Iran in 1973.

Neighborhood and the Islamic religion are important factors in establishing links between the Iranian people, especially the people of the southern regions of Iran and with the Qatari people in particular. Therefore, the Iranians had a distinct role in the economic development and reconstruction of Qatar. The discovery of oil in Qatar in the 1940s leaded to increase the rate of migration of the people of the cities and ports of southern Iran to Qatar.
