Iran was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the State of Qatar. Neighborhood and the Islamic religion are important factors in establishing links between the Iranian people, especially the people of the southern regions of Iran and with the Qatari people in particular. Therefore, the Iranians had a distinct role in the economic development and reconstruction of Qatar. The discovery of oil in Qatar in the 1940s leaded to increase the rate of migration of the people of the cities and ports of southern Iran to Qatar.
